Bigband piece. The meaning of the name is “Forest Dreams”. Commissioned by Stavanger Jazzforum/Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble, this piece is inspired by a gift my mother got in her early youth, from a sailor friend who’d been travelling overseas, a music box from Japan. This gift, a combined lamp, calendar, shadow theatre and music box stayed at my grandparents house. I was always puzzled by the mystery of this unique object and the strange melody when I visited them as a child. In this piece I try to mix pieces of the japanese melody with the mood it used to put me in.
